Reviews

When I was first diagnosed with bipolar, I was overwhelmed. I was blessed with an excellent psychiatrist but there was only so much she could share with me during a quick appointment as we worked to balance my medications. This group allowed me to dive into the research and taught me to be my own best advocate. I learned more from the group than the countless books I have picked up over the years in search of answers. But more than that, the community aspect was what made me want to stay in the group even when I achieved remission. The drama-free atmosphere, the focus on clinical findings and evidence-based research over anecdotes, and the encouragement to continue learning and speaking up for myself has changed my outlook on this illness. I know I will have bipolar for the rest of my life, but this group ensures that I’m armed with the latest answers from leading experts in the field and that I never have to walk this journey alone.

II'm an Licensed Professional Counselor who works with clients and patients with a variety of mental illnesses, including bipolar disorders, and RACABD has been immensely helpful in keeping up with current research to best help my clients and patients in their road to recovery and wellness. I greatly appreciate the wealth of knowledge RACABD provides and the diligent work that Katrin and the other individuals in the organization put into it. It is extremely clear they all are very dedicated to helping those with bipolar disorder.

RACABD has been a really helpful group for my family and I. In the early days of my kids' diagnoses, they were available to offer support and answer a myriad of questions. They offer free mood charts to help the members track medications and how they are feeling day to day. They also provide various educational talks and opportunities with Mental Health professionals, allowing time at the end of the programs to ask questions. I have also had the privilege of attending a couple of the educational talks that they have sponsored. They provide various educational opportunities and even allow time at the end of the program to ask questions from the professional presenters. I appreciate all of the scientific articles that are posted on the FB page. I have learned so much and received so much support from RACABD! Keep up the great work of educating and supporting those with mental disorders and their loved ones!

I have found this organization, and Katrin, to possess a wealth of information and understanding. As the mom of a beautiful and brilliant son with BP, having access to new research as well as companionship for the road we travel, is so valuable. I am also a clinician—LCPC in private practice. And I have shared this resource with others as well!

RACABD is the best online resource I have found for learning about bipolar disorder. It covers a wide range of topics, and is a reliable source of information. I’m very thankful to Katrin for establishing such a helpful source of information.

Research articles are often inaccessible to the general population and there is much discussion in academia about the theory/practice divide. RACABD is committed to bridging the gap between academic writing and the people who would benefit from it. They provide sessions about reading research articles and generally make complex material accessible.

The resources shared here have helped me source information about bipolar that has not only helped me understand myself better, but other family members as well since they have BD as well. The information is invaluable and has helped me better understand the current research and treatment options. Thank you so much for all the hard work put in to provide this to the bipolar disorder community.

I experience bipolar and this community has made feel feel understood and supported, and I am able to stay up to date on the research through this community. Katrin, an admin, is wonderful and always responsive.

Mental health care in most counties has more holes than Swiss Cheese. In fact, Swiss cheese at least has connections between the holes. Not so, for Mental Health Care. There are holes in research, diagnostic best practices, caregiver education, availability of psychiatrists, hospital beds, residential treatment centers, therapists, insurance coverage, help for families and caregivers and on and on. RACABD is a vital resource in helping fill one of these holes: communication about latest research .. for BOTH practitioners (psychologists, psychiatrists) as well as caregivers who have a thirst to understand more. Congrats to RACABD for bringing passion, informed understanding, and a relentless drive to help practitioners, caregivers, and those trying to learn about these brain neurochemistry conditions.
